the big picture

friday's at friendly's, begging for the car keys
couldn't wait to graduate and head straight out of here
like tires stuck in the mud, when the saugatuck would flood
someday i'd be on my way and my tracks would disappear
dying to live down this small town
but i see the big picture now

narrow sidewalks, you can hear the cracks talk
telling old stories like time stood still
there's the old bus stop, where we played tag around the mountain top
ol' mose's mountain ain't no bigger than a hill
time's made it all look smaller somehow
guess i see the big picture now

one small truth is what i find
here in my small town state of mind

feeling connected, never expected
i'd be settling down right here tracing my tracks
small town faces, small town places
all the things that made me leave brought me back
there's an understanding that time alone allows
and i see the big picture now
yea i see the big picture now
